THE BARN RESTAURANT
Barns are cool. Everybody loves a barn. Karl and Lesley Matlack were on the right track in believing that a barn inspired restaurant would be a huge hit just off Highway 50 in Burrton, KS. They purchased the former site of the Paradise Grill, destroyed by fire in 2012, and contracted with Regier Construction to design and raise a barn for the hungry folks of the community of Burrton
We started the project with a parking lot and a hole where the old grill had stood. The budget was tight and the program was ambitious. We went through several schemes for the structure, but kept going back to the drawing board when Karl and Lesley would say “that’s nice…but it needs more cowbell”. Our design team had to invent some unconventional applications of common materials to hit the look, feel, function and budget that the Matlacks were going for.
Fifty thousand chicken fried steaks later, business is still going strong!
